University of Porto wins two medals at CNU Long Pool Swimming

On March 23, 29 student-athletes went to Campanhã to represent the University of Porto in the National University Swimming Championship in a long pool.

 

Guided by the Coaches Vânia Neves, Jose Lemos and Mario Filho, the U.Porto delegation brought home two medals. The first, bronze in 4×50 meters freestyle event, was won by Joana Rodrigues (FMDUP), Rita Nunes (FCUP), Luana Domingues (FADEUP) and Maria Inês Castro (FEUP). The silver medal, also won by Maria Inês Castro, was won at 100 meter breaststroke event.

Organized by the Polytechnic Institute of Porto at the Campanhã swimming pool complex, the competition was attended by 179 student-athletes from 16 academic associations.

In addition to the medal-winning athletes from U.Porto, the delegation brought together student-athletes from 10 different faculties from the different campuses.

From the Asprela Pole, Gil Matos, Tomás Ribeiro, Maria Lemos, Sofia Correia, Gabriela Rocha and Pedro Igreja da FADEUP. Also Artur Teles, Joana da Silva, João Araújo, Miguel Pereira, João Torres, David Borges and Francisco Lourenço da FEUP. From FEP, Vasco Vicente and the FMUP Maria Almeida.

From Campo Alegre, student-athletes Vasco Castro, Rui Silva and Ricardo Lima da FCUP and Pedro Pereira da FLUP.

From the city center, Lexane Portugal and João Moreira do ICBAS, Diogo Nunes da FDUP and Mariana Martins from FBAUP.

There were 25 titles up for grabs and the collective trophy was won by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, which this academic year won both swimming titles: in short and long pools.
