CDUP-UP wears pink to prevent breast cancer

In October, the U.Porto Sports Centre will wear pink in UPFit classes, in a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention.

The U.Porto Sports Centre (CDUP-UP) joins the Northern Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCCNorth) in the international movement “Pink October”, organizing two “pink classes”, collecting donations and raising awareness.

In order to publicize and sensitize for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, UPFit organizes two special sessions dedicated to the topic.

Day October 15, World Metastatic Breast Cancer Day, will be marked with a Mega Jump and Yoga Class, from 18:45 pm to 20:00 pm at the Faculty of Sports (FADEUP).

National Breast Cancer Prevention Day is celebrated on October 30 with one pink walk 3,5km, from 18:30pm to 19:15pm by FADEUP e Asprela Central Park, followed by, from 19:15 pm to 20:00 pm, a Pilates class also at FADEUP.

Interested parties must register through application form and make a donation. So that you can equip yourself properly, a official t-shirt of the “Onda Rosa” is available for purchase in the form.

The amount collected in this initiative, which is open to the entire community, will go entirely to the Portuguese League Against Cancer.

For those who cannot attend these initiatives and still wish to contribute, all reception areas at CDUP-UP sports facilities are equipped, throughout the month, with LPCC boxes for spontaneous donations.

The 2024 Pink October edition is a joint initiative between CDUP-UP and the BAMBUP Mental Health Promotion Program at U.Porto.

The Pink October movement

The movement known as “Pink October” began in the United States in the 90s with the aim of inspiring change and mobilizing society in the fight against breast cancer. Since then, the color pink has been used around the world to honor women with breast cancer, raise awareness of prevention and early diagnosis, and support research in this area.

The Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC), representing EUROPA DONNA (European Coalition Against Breast Cancer) and through the “Vencer e Viver” Movement, promotes the “Pink October” initiative with the aim of raising awareness of the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer, namely through screening, and disseminating information and forms of support for women and their families.
