The University of Porto teams got off to a great start in their participation in the Final Stages of the National University Championships (CNU's), which run until April 17 in Coimbra, after winning two national runner-up titles in the handball and women's volleyball categories.

No female handball, U.Porto secured a place in the final after an excellent campaign, but ended up losing to the Academic Association of the University of Minho (AAUMinho), in a very balanced and intense game. The team from Minho won 21-20, in a duel that was a true ode to university handball. With this performance, U.Porto was crowned university national runner-up of the modality.

No women's volleyball, was the Student Association of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (AEFEUP) to reach the final, where they also faced AAUMinho. Despite their efforts, the U.Porto team was defeated 3-0, thus ending the competition in second place on the podium.

In the fight for third and fourth place, the Student Association of the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AEICBAS) was unable to overcome the Academic Association of the University of Aveiro, also losing 3-0 and remaining in 4th final position. The Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (AEFMUP), also present in the competition, did not get past the group stage.

In men's basketball, the Student Association of the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto (AEFADEUP) and AEFEUP were unable to progress beyond the group stage, as was AEFEUP in men's futsal.

The competition continues next week with the entry into action of new U.Porto teams: Men's Handball (AEFEUP), Women's Basketball (AEFADEUP and AEFEUP), Men's Volleyball (AEFMUP and AEFEUP), Women's Futsal (AEFADEUP) and 11-a-side Football (AEFEP and AEFADEUP).

The participation of U.Porto in the Final Phases of CNU's 2025 reinforces, once again, the prominent role of the University of Porto in the panorama of national university sports.
