AEFEP is champion in 11-a-side football and AEFEUP in men's volleyball
The University of Porto teams were once again in the spotlight during the second week of the Final Stages of the National University Championships (CNU), which took place from 14 to 18 April in Coimbra. This time, two U.Porto Student Associations took the top spot on the podium, adding two more national university championship titles to the U.Porto.
The big achievement of the week was the national university title of 11 Football, achieved by the team of Porto Faculty of Economics Student Association (AEFEP), who overcame all opponents and was crowned national university champion of the sport, revalidating the 2023 title. Also standing out was the team of AEFEUP Men's Volleyball, who dominated the competition and secured first place on the podium.
AEFEUP was also in the spotlight when it won the silver medal in women's basketball, confirming the strong performance of the Faculty of Engineering in the competitions of this edition of the Final Phases of the CNU's.
The performance of the other U.Porto teams also deserves to be highlighted. In men's volleyball, Students' Association of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (AEFMUP) reached 4th place. In men's handball, AEFEUP finished the race in 5th place, as did the team Women's basketball team of the Student Association of the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto (AEFADEUP).
In Football 11, the AEFADEUP finished in 7th place, a ranking that was matched by his team Women's futsal, thus closing the participation of the U.Porto Student Associations in this second week of competition.
U.Porto thus continues the excellent performance recorded in first week of competition, where the second places achieved in Women's Handball (U.Porto) and Women's Volleyball (AEFEUP), among other classifications, stood out.
U.Porto teams participated in all competition modalities in these Final Stages of CNU's 2025, with a total of 15 teams, having reached five finals and won two national championship titles.
For Bruno Almeida, director of the U.Porto Sports Centre (CDUP-UP), “these results and, above all, the strong participation of the U.Porto student association teams are a source of great pride for the University. These figures demonstrate the excellent competitive level of our teams and the consistency of the work developed throughout the year”.
According to the official, the success achieved is a reflection of ongoing and strategic investment. “The growing quality of the Porto Academic Championships (CAP) has been decisive, establishing itself as a true platform for the development of sporting and competitiveness for our students”, highlights Bruno Almeida. He adds: “These results also reflect the investment we have been making in improving the University’s sports facilities, as well as the ongoing support provided by the sports services, which ensure the conditions for our teams to train, develop and perform at the highest level in national competitions”.
The national university champion teams thus secured their place in the European University Championships in Men's 11-a-side Football and Men's Volleyball.
